The pothos houseplant is by far the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of houseplants. The beautiful and unassuming pothos houseplant is one of the easiest and undemanding plants to grow in your home. This lovely plant is an easy way to add some much-needed green to your home while not overly fussy about its location.

The pothos makes a great addition to your home or office because of its ability to tolerate several different lighting conditions. If you are looking to purchase a pothos, here are some care instructions to ensure you are successful with your pothos houseplant.

Light

Pothos houseplants do prefer bright but indirect light but are known to thrive just fine in lower light areas of your home. Variegated pothos will sometimes lose their leaf patterns when in a room that doesn’t get enough light. Simply moving it back to an area with more light will allow the variegation to come back.

Water and Soil

Pothos houseplants are among the few houseplants that will show you when it needs water. The leaves will droop down and not be as perky when it needs a good drink. Don’t wait too long because you potentially could lose a few leaves if they go without water for too long. Dry, brown edges on your leaves indicate being too dry for a long time, and black spots show the soil has been kept too wet. It best to plant pothos in a well-draining potting soil like Fertilome Ultimate Potting Mix to ensure water does sit for too long.

Fertilizer

Pothos plants generally don’t need much in the way of food. However, they still can benefit from a bi-monthly feeding with any balanced houseplant fertilizer.

Temperature and Humidity

Pothos need to be above 50° F at all times. So keeping them in any normal home that’s between 65 and 75°F is ideal for them. Humidity isn’t that big of a factor for them so having them in high or low humidity areas is equally sufficient.

Pet Friendly

The pothos, like most houseplants, are mildly toxic if eaten. That means it may cause some mild discomfort when eaten. Keep away from animals and children.
