Chinese Evergreen Features

Chinese evergreens are not only beautiful houseplants with many varieties and styles, but it also the perfect houseplant for beginners. A very sturdy plant, the Chinese evergreen is very easy to grow because it will tolerate almost any indoor condition. Most of the Chinese evergreens we carry have beautifully rich green leaves patterned with a silver highlight, however some varieties will have a deep red with green leaves. As an added bonus, if you place the plant in a brightly lit area you’ll sometimes get calla-like blooms

At City Floral we give you Denver’s largest selection of Chinese evergreens, so you can choose how large of a plant you’d need for your décor. Younger Chinese evergreens are smaller and perfect for office desktops or a shelf in your home. Chinese evergreens are slow growing, so buying them small will ensure that they don’t grow out of the space you have them in. The larger plants work best on the floor, like next to furniture, in a corner, or as accent piece.

Growing a Chinese Evergreen

Growing a Chinese evergreen couldn’t be any easier because it will grow well in pretty much any area of your home. It will tolerate low light conditions but also grows well in bright areas of your home. It doesn’t even need natural light and will do wonderfully in fluorescent lighting, which makes it the perfect office houseplant.

Fertilome Ultimate Potting Mix

When buying a Chinese evergreen, like any houseplant it’s important to get a good-quality houseplant potting mix. We suggest the Fertilome Ultimate Potting Mix because it has everything a new houseplant needs to have to ensure that it grows for years to come.

Watering a Chinese evergreen is almost as easy as it’s requirements for light. Pretty much water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist, but it will be fine if you water once every couple of weeks. Just make sure it doesn’t go to long without a little drink.

If you are looking to give your Chinese evergreen a little extra boost in growth you can fertilizer once or twice during the spring and summer. Don’t fertilizer during the winter as it’s not the growing season and could do more harm than not. We suggest Schultz Plant Food Plus because it’s easy-to-use and perfect for encouraging new growth.
