Houseplant Trends for 2025

Who’s ready to dive into everything related to houseplant trends for 2025?! We love to see what indoor plants and display ideas have grown in popularity and what trends have really lasted into this fresh new year. So, let’s take a look!

 

In the houseplant category, National Garden Bureau has predicted that 2025 will be the Year of the Monstera. This is one of the most iconic indoor plants and this year it’s really having an even bigger moment. The Monstera deliciosa might be the first to come to mind, and this classic beauty is just as popular as ever for it’s statement foliage and ease of care, but there are also so many other varieties to love! Find options with such interesting and diverse leaf shapes and sizes and of course stunning variegation. You’ll fall in love with the starry variegation in Monstera deliciosa ‘Thai Constellation’, the quick growth and fenestrations in Monstera adansonii, the glossy, textured leaves of Monstera Peru, and the oversized, majorly fenestrated foliage of Monstera esqueleto.

Low-maintenance plants will be another big trend this year. These plants offer all the benefits of any houseplant but they won’t demand all your time and attention. They’re low water, hardy, easy to look after, and just overall chill companions. Who doesn’t love orchids? They’re such a stunning and elegant plant with the most amazing flowers. And there are so many varieties to choose from!

While large, statement-making floor plants and trees will certainly be sticking around in popularity, this small plant trend is a really popular alternative for gifting and smaller quarters. Place small plants like succulents, cactus, or 4-inch easy care plants in great planters for the most thoughtful gift that will keep on giving. It’s a great idea for Galentines, wedding favors, or thank yous.

 

 

This houseplant has been a little overlooked in recent years but in 2025 we say “no more!”. Hoyas are easy to care for and famous for their delicious-smelling blooms (from floral to chocolate-y, they’re seriously scrumptious AND beautiful to look at). There are so many varieties with different sized foliage, different color blooms, and different variegation and you’ll love them all. Let them trail, train them up a trellis or pole, or create wood-mounted displays.

 

There’s a big focus on plants and wellness. People are creating wellness corners in their homes and filling them with you guessed it…houseplants! Plants are shown to improve overall wellbeing. They can help purify the air and caring for (and looking at) plants can boost your mood. Science.

 

Here are some other trends we’ll see in houseplants this year:

• Indoor Fruit Trees– Those citrus and fig trees you love in the summer months are also great indoor plants. Just make sure to keep these plants in a really bright window or provide a grow light when keeping indoors.
• Air Plants & Epiphytes– These easy and endlessly fascinating plants are having a big moment in 2025.
• Tech- Speaking of grow lights…tech-enabled plant care is still trending this year. Smart plant care devices like moisture meters, sensors, automated watering systems, self-watering pots, plant health monitoring apps, and grow lights all make your plant care a little more ease-filled.
• Variegated Plants- Another plant trend that’s sticking around…is it still considered a “trend”?
• Innovative Displays- Think plant walls, wall-mounted planters, more floating shelf displays, hanging curtains, air plant “chandeliers”, and other unique ways to style houseplants inside the home.
• Large Plants- Those big, statement-making floor plants are still as popular as ever! They make a major impact in any room and can really complete a space.
• Colorful Pots– We’re seeing more cheerful colors entering the home. One great place to put a pop of color? On your planters and pots!
• Terrariums and Plant Cabinets- Terrariums are amazing little plant displays, we’ll also be seeing more of what could be considered the “big” version of this-plant cabinets. Plant cabinets are glass cabinets that are weather-stripped and sealed. They’re then retrofitted with humidifiers, grow lights, meters, and fans to circulate the air and create the perfect environment for plants, especially rares and the more finicky.
