Miniature roses have been bred to stay under three feet tall while still putting out clusters of colorful blooms. This makes them ideal additions to rock gardens, tight border spots, the edges of rose gardens, and patio container gardens. The short bushes grow dense and bushy, vaunting packed trusses full of petite blooms!
Miniature rose bushes bloom the best in full sun. Choose a location with at least 6 hours of sun per day. Morning sun is more kind to the plant.

One to two inches of water per week is usually sufficient, but this varies by climate and growing conditions. Hot locations and sandy soil like Colorado will need more frequent watering. Make sure to water the soil and not the leaves.
A rich, sandy loam is the preferred soil for miniature roses. Amend difficult soils with humus, or consider building up the beds to ensure good drainage. Roses will not tolerate soggy, wet roots. Mulch the plants to cool the roots and conserve water.Â
Miniature rose bushes are heavy feeders and benefit from regular applications of fertilizer. Choose a balanced fertilizer or one labeled for roses. Iron is essential if the soil’s pH is too high. If the leaves turn yellow with green veins, use an iron supplement.

Loads of shiny bright audacious orange blooms sparkle against the abundant deep deep glossy green leaves…and that dazzling color lasts all through the life of the flower. Perfect in a patio pot or tucked into a gaudy garden border. Makes a terrific tree rose, too. Best flower size & petals in cooler conditions.

Color: Lavender
Fragrance: Fruity
Make sure to take time to find enjoyment in Life’s Little Pleasures. Very double blooms of lavender-pink, fade to lavender but then hold their color to the very end. An abundance of blooms, with excellent bud and flower form, sit atop a well-rounded shrub with a compact habit.

Color: Yellow/Orange
Fragrance: Mild
These bright colors make a pot o’ gold look dull. Its bushy compact plant displays lots of pointed buds and large shapely blooms atop glossy green leaves. One of the best!

Hydrangeas do well in partially shaded areas like under a large tree or on the side of a house. They like to receive sun in the morning, and the partial shade is in the heat of the afternoon. In Colorado, too much full sun will cause them to get sunburned.
Hydrangea shrubs need to have well-draining soils that is rich in organic matter. Most Colorado soils will benefit from the addition of peat moss and compost that helps retain moisture. The pH determines the colors of the blooms. Acidic soil will give you blue flowers, and alkaline soil gives you pink flowers. Â
If hydrangea shrubs are given too much high-nitrogen fertilizer, they may grow full and lush, but there will be fewer flowers. If the soil is rich, fertilizer is not needed. Otherwise, a light application in March or April may be warranted.
Make sure to water your hydrangea shrubs regularly. Those big blooms require a lot of water to stay lush and full. About one inch of water throughout the week is ideal. If they receive more sun give them at least two inches during the hotter summer days.
