Petunia flowers provide a long blooming season, so your landscape can enjoy more color during spring and summer. For Colorado gardens, there is an excellent selection of petunia types that will ensure your garden has lasting impact!

There are several types of petunias that love our Colorado climate. Grandifloras are taller petunias with showy blossoms. While multifloras are smaller plants, millifloras have small flowers and each offer color that is both compact and impactful! Look for cascading petunias to trail out of hanging baskets and window boxes.

How to Plant and Care for Petunias

Petunias like full sun and well-drained soil but can also perform in partially shady locations. Petunias like to be watered but need time to drain. Petunia plants that are over-watered or where the soil isn’t given a chance to adequately dry out can become “leggy”. While the plant itself is still fine, a leggy petunia loses some impact compared to shorter stems and colorful blossoms bunched together.

Successful watering practices for petunias tend to come from watering on a schedule. In the heat of summer, check your petunias every day to see if they need more moisture. Water thoroughly until the water comes out of the base drain holes and then leave the plant to soak up the goodness.
