The beginning of a new year brings many fresh things—new resolutions, new styles, new opportunities, and of course, new trends. Trend forecasting not only applies to fashion and home décor, but also plants. From orchids to mounted plants and more plant know-how, check out all the top trends in houseplants below.

In their houseplant category, National Garden Bureau has predicted that 2023 will be the Year of the Orchid. With more than 28,000 species, all with show-stopping blooms, it’s no wonder orchids are so popular and well-loved. Learn more about orchids including popular varieties and essential care tips here.

In recent years, we’ve seen a ton of fiddle leaf figs and Monstera deliciosas and they’re not going anywhere. This year, larger-leaved houseplants will be even more in demand and we’ll see more diversity among what’s popular. Think bird of paradise, other varieties of ficus trees, and palms. Big, statement houseplants give your space an instant jungle-inspired upgrade and deliver a major wow-factor.

Foliage that offers a little diversity among a sea of deep green leaves will be popular in 2023. We’ve seen more indoor spaces with variegated plants featuring pink and white but this year, along with those gorgeous houseplants, we’ll be seeing a spike in popularity among more neon green/golden foliage. For this trend, think Neon pothos, Brasil philodendron, and Moonlight philodendron.

Another exciting trend in houseplants for 2023 is mounted plants. This trend is excellent for utilizing vertical space and freeing up some of your shelves and stands. Mounted plants are displayed in moss which is carefully secured to a piece of wood or bark. Plants that work well for this trend include staghorn ferns, hoyas, and bromeliads.
