Lawn Care Fertilizer Programs
for the Colorado Climate

Program #1: Established Lawn With Weeds

  • Step 1.
    March/Early April - apply Crabgrass Preventer plus Lawn Food.
  • Step 2.
    Late spring - apply Weed -out plus Lawn Fertilizer, when weeds are growing. Water before applying and then do not water for 48 hours.
  • Step 3.
    Late summer - apply Lawn Food plus Iron. Helps maintain thick healthy lawn.
  • Step 4.
    Fall - apply Winterizer. Builds stronger root systems for earlier green up in spring. 

    Program #2: Established Lawn with No Weeds
  • Step 1.
    April - June - after first mowing apply, 1 bag Classic Lawn Fertilizer and 1 bag Thatch Decomposter, water thoroughly after applying, this very important.
  • Step 2.
    Repeat step 1 every 3 weeks except when the temperature is above 85 degrees, otherwise your lawn will burn.
  • Step 3.
    Late summer - apply Lawn Food plus Iron, helps maintain green lawn.
  • Step 4.
    Fall - apply Winterizer, builds stronger root systems for earlier green up in spring. 

    Program #3: New and/or Neglected Lawns
  • Step 1.
    After first mowing in spring apply, 1 bag Classic Lawn Fertilizer and 1 bag Thatch Decomposter, water thoroughly after applying.
  • Step 2.
    Late summer - apply 1 bag Lawn Food plus Iron and 1 bag Thatch Decomposter. The advantages of Thatch Decomposter is that it contains beneficial bacteria, helping to break down thatch and also aids in the development of root systems. Reminder it’s very important that you water in thoroughly.
  • Step 3.
    Late fall - apply Winterizer - builds stronger root system for earlier green up in spring, water in thoroughly.

    Program #4: Organic Lawns

  • Step 1.
    Mid-March, around St. Patrick's Day, apply corn gluten fertilizer to lawn. Corn gluten will inhibit the germination of the seeds of common lawn weeds like crabgrass, dandelion, and prostrate spurge.
  • Step 2.
    April or May - apply Pro-Rich and Soil Activator, water in with liquid Revive using a setting of 5 ounces per gallon in a hose end sprayer.
  • Step 3.
    June - If lawn is yellowed - repeat step 1.
  • Step 4.
    September - repeat step 1.
  • Step 5.
    October - apply 1 bag Richlawn Winterizer.
